Roberta Rodgers

December 31, 1958 — June 5, 2022

Los Angeles

Roberta Rodgers lovingly called “RORO” was born on December 31st, 1958, in Los Angeles, California. She was born to the proud parents of Birdell Adams and John Roger, both preceded her in death. As a child, Roberta was extremely energetic and active. She enjoyed spending time with her siblings, playing sports, and tussling with her brothers.

Roberta attended 49th Street Elementary School, Carver Middle School, John Adams Middle School, and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. While in high school, Roberta participated as a team mascot for Jefferson Cheer Team and met many lifelong friends that are considered family today. Shortly after high school, Roberta became a mother to a set of beautiful twins, Keisha and Keshon. Roberta took pride in being their mother, whenever you saw her, you would see her with either her children or bonus children.

Roberta was known for being a happy carefree spirit but anyone that met her, can testify to the warm bright light that you felt because of her presence. She also loved partying with family and friends; dancing and encouraging everyone else to dance. Her loving spirit was testament to her upbringing.

Roberta was raised in a Christian household and understood the importance of having a relationship with Christ, at a young age. At the age of twenty-eight, she was rebaptized at Rock of Ages Missionary Baptist Church, and accepted it as her church home. When she had children of her own, she instilled the importance of having a relationship with God to her children and grandchildren, whom she raised in the church. Roberta made it her mission to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, she took every opportunity to share the good news with anyone in her sphere of influence. She made sure all the kids attended Sunday school. Everyone knew if you spent a Saturday night at RORO's house, you were going to church the next day.

Roberta was never afraid to be herself, she would always speak her mind and lived her life in alignment with the Lord. She was also ambitious; she worked numerous jobs like Crossing Guard for Torrance School District, Advertising at LA Temp Agency but her passion was in the Press. She spent time working for Los Angeles Herald Examiner and the Los Angeles Times.

Nevertheless, Roberta’s true calling was a caregiver. She dedicated her life to caring for her mother, Birdell, in her latter years when she fell ill. She made sure her mother continued to do everything she loved to do, like weekly trips to downtown LA, getting her hair and nails done, and most importantly cooking. After her mother’s passing, she took pride in being a full-time grandmother for her grandchildren and cared for her sick aunt. Even at the end of her own life, Roberta was still extremely active in her children and grandchildren's lives.

On the evening of June 5th, 2022, God saw that His faithful servant was tired, and sent for her. Roberta went from Labor to Reward. Waiting at Heaven’s gate were her parents, her brother, Harald Rodger, her Life Partner, Felton Jones, and her nephew Marquise Coleman. Roberta leaves to cherish her memories, her twins Keisha and Keshon, her eight grandchildren, Paris, India, & London Thomas, Cheyanne, Kyyera, Rayshon, Kyon & Kanaan Robinson, her siblings, Bernice Price, Bobby Singleton Geraldine Coleman, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
